Hodgepodge

Good morning  y'all!

I'm hooking up with Joyce n' company for the weekly 'Hodgepodge.' Basically, she asks the questions and we answer on our own blogs.

'Reminds me a little of the 'slam book' questionnaires we used to surreptitiously pass in junior high!  No-one's looking to confiscate your notebook now.   Come'on and play along!

What is something you currently find 'taxing'?

Going in, Tom and I knew we were opposites, but lately it's getting worse. I'm totally the kind of person who, for instance, packs days before a trip.  I try to plan for every eventuality.   He's a last-minute type.

Yep, I need to just step back and take a deep breath.   If it comes to it, let him be late.

Joyce has seen this question asked in various forms on several social media sites:

You can only keep 3:  Coffee, jewelry, tacos, wine, books, dogs, chocolate, Netflix, make-up, leggings, cheese, cats.

Which 3 do you keep and how easy or hard was it for you to decide?

Easy-peasy!
Coffee, dogs, leggings.

Tell us something you know or have learned about forgiveness?

I still struggle.  What do you say we keep it light!

What's something you'd recommend that is often overlooked and under-appreciated?

How about, learning up-front the location of public restrooms wherever we may frequent.

Give us a favorite word that starts with the letter K, and tell us why this is the one you chose.

I've been buying Kamora for 20-some years -- but some people have never heard of it?  Basically, it's the  poor man's answer to Kahlua.  I think it tastes the same --  but is way more affordable and contains less calories.  Not so syrupy sweet.

Insert your own random thought here.

Not a thought; rather, a question for my fellow eyeglass wearers:

I love my first-ever glasses, but hate the way they attract smudges.  And despite their being 'scratch resistant' I've had to have the lens' replaced twice in 12 months.   Poly-something.  (I just call them plexiglass.)

What are your thoughts on glass lenses?    Grateful!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I would have to keep coffee, books and chocolate. Can''t do without these three. I do rsemsember thos slam books in school and haven't thought about them in years. Thanks for the memories. I know my glasses have shatterproof lenses but not sure what they are made of . Probably plexiglass.

  2. Before I forget BOOKS,DOGS, CHEESE!
Forgiveness? Sometimes Easy as pie BUT a very few times I have STRUGGLED!
My favorite 'K' word would be old 'Kars'. (I'm thinking like Victor, that is scary!)
    One of your wisest statements:
How about, learning up-front the location of public restrooms wherever we may frequent.......
As always a visit to your house is always a leasure. (PS: Me 'n Tom is brothers!)

  5. My glasses definitely smudge. They tell me if you have the transition lenses, which I do, that's even worse and you have to be very careful how you clean them. I usually use the cloth they give to clean mine, but when they get really bad I like to use Dawn dish soap on them. I don't seem to have problems with scratches though.

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience, Cathy. I, too, like cleaning mine with Dawn. So much better than that over-the-counter spray stuff.

  6. I'm going to have to look for that Kamora; I bet hubby would like it. I would go with wine, books, and dogs, not necessarily in that order (or maybe in that order :)

I'm not sure what my glass lens are made from. Something sturdy I would imagine since I'm always dropping them and they have let to break. They do smudge a lot and I'm bad cleaning them until I can't see out of them :)

I so agree about locating the public bathrooms. I still do that to this day because son at a young age had the tiniest of bladders and we always had to make a bathroom stop wherever we were so I got into the habit of locating them right when I got into the store, park, wherever we went so I was prepared. Its a habit I haven't broken to this day, lol :)

  7. That sure brought back memories when you mentioned passing the slam books in junior high! I must always know where the bathrooms are as soon as I arrive anywhere and usually need to head there already anyway lol. I'm going to have to give the Kamora a try! I still just buy cheap readers and just toss them out if they break or get scratched. Have a great day Myra :)

    1. Another someone who remembers the Slam Books! Yeay! Please let me know how you like the Kamora, Martha. My favorite is just poured over the rocks and sipped -- but it also makes a good White Russian. 😋

  8. My glasses prescription is so strong that glass lenses would look ridiculous, and probably give me a headache from their weight.

  10. "Taxing"?? That's a nice way of putting it. Right now, every aspect of my life is so taxing that I'm hanging on by a thin thread and nearly ready to be admitted to the Funny Farm.
    I'll spare the details....

Three things? Cats, books, and wine.
Let's add cheese and make it four.

The "K" word completely stumps me. I can't think of a thing.

I didn't know they still made glass lenses for glasses. Haven't seen them since I was eight years old....

  11. I got new glasses recently. Not my first pair, but it always takes some adjusting with the new prescription. Your forgiveness meme-lol

  12. My glasses are so scratched and I have no idea how they got scratched. I only clean them with the cleaning cloth they came with. I only take them off at night and they go right into the case they came in. I will get new ones next month and will definitely ask about the scratches. I've worn glasses since 2nd grade. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge responses today, Myra! xo

    1. Please let me know what they say about those scratches, Terri! 'Still can't believe I waited so long to get glasses. I don't miss the contacts one bit.

  13. What's something you'd recommend that is often overlooked and under-appreciated?

The spoon rest. Life would be awful without a spoon rest. It is the greatest invention since even before they invented the wheel or sliced bread. Did you know that before they invented the spoon rest people used to rest their spoons on a wheel? This took a lot of space especially if the kitchen was small. Imagine having a car wheel on your kitchen table just to rest your spoon on! Thank Heavens for the spoon rest.

My uncle was a glazier. He fixed windows and replaced the glass when needed. Once he replaced the glass in all the windows in an office block. Then he realised that his glass lenses were cracked.

I'll try Kamora. Don't know if they have it in the UK. We have Kahlua here; but I never saw Kamora.

    God bless.

  14. (1) Books,
    (2) Blogs and emails about dogs...we don't have one so I get my doggie fix online,
    (3) Netflix or other streaming, like The Great Courses Plus. I watch while I exercise... it's essential to my mental and physical health.

  15. Even after being married almost 56 years, we are still adjusting or maybe it's simply still learning to live with our temperament differences. Sure thought that would be over and done with a long time ago. Not being a coffee drinker your K word is totally new to me.

  16. Smudged does not being to describe what happens to my glasses sometimes

  17. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who finds the restrooms first in any public place...good thing we don't all shop at the same place at the same time. LOL. I have plastic lenses, and I use the special spray cleaner and cloth they gave me at the optometrist office to clean them. I do have a scratch and I need to get my eyes examined soon, so will probably replace them. They said glass lenses are too heavy. So I took their word for it.
Always enjoy your posts. Oh, I usually pack the night before leaving. Have to do the laundry and make sure I have enough clean undies to pack, so I have to wait until the last minute and put things in before I have a chance to get them dirty again...LOL>

    1. Funny girl! Once I did that, stuck them in a big zip-lock bag and hung it under one of my jackets. Except I forgot what I'd done and mistakenly believed they were left behind. What to do but make an emergency trip to Wal-Mart. It wasn't until several days later the weather turned cool requiring said jacket and GUESS WHAT?!

  18. Coffee, wine and cheese for me, although chocolate might have to vie with the cheese. Sorry, Myra, that you're having trouble with your glasses, and I wish I could help in that department. As for travel, I like to plan ahead.
    Blessings!

  21. I am so scattered most times. The forgiveness was a LOL! Not a laughing matter but the hubbys sis is hospitalized with the virus. But their drama goes on. Taxing to say the very least. It is absolutely maddening. I have never had Kamora. Asked the hubby to buy champagne for Mimosa he comes back with a giant bottle of Rose something in a huge and expensive bottle. Oye Vay!I will never give up my leggings and tacos. But I lean more toward tea most days. We own a zillion movies so I do not care to pay extra for movies. I carry so many of the little cloth glass cleaners. Favorite K word KIndness sadly lacking in the world and expecially in the USA. My glasses smudge a lot but I pull them on and off too. I am waiitng on my new sunglasses. The sun is brutal and the snow season was hard on my eyes. I miss Hodge Podge but never seem to get anywhere timely lately. HUGS to you and Tom
