Lady Liberty.

Hello friends and internet family.   I hope you are doing well and I hope your 4th of July weekend will be a great one.
"Independence Day ought to be commenorated as the day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with ...illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more." John Adams.
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Lady Liberty (2018)
... because it's 4th of July weekend.

1) This song is a Valentine to the Statue of Liberty. Have you ever visited Lady Liberty?
Yes, indeed. Took the ferry over and climbed all the way to the crown.  I think the torch was closed at the time.   It was very moving to see her as the ship moved closer to her.   I thought of my father's parents coming to Ellis Island at the turn of the last century and I felt very emotional.  They came for religious freedom and found it here.

2) When you combine the lady herself and her pedestal, she stands 22 stories high. What's the tallest building you've ever been in?
The Skylon Tower over Niagara in the rotating restaurant.  It is775 feet above the falls.
Though my mother often had lunch in the Windows on the World in the  World Trade Center Twin Towers, I never went there.   And though I grew up 30 minute drive outside NYC, I was never to the Empire State Bhilding either.

3) Her crown represents universal liberty with seven spikes for the seven seas. Without looking it up, can you name the seven seas?
Yes, I can. and all the 7 continents too.

4) The song was written by Desmond Child, a Cuban-American from Gainesville, home of the University of Florida. In 1965, a team of UF scientists invented Gatorade. Do you have any Gatorade in your home right now?
I do not have Gatorade and the first time I tried it, I gagged.  I thought it was horrible.

5) While best known for his work with KISS, Bon Jovi and Cher, Desmond Child was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Muppets 2003 holiday special. This morning, as we enjoy summer, what's the first Christmas carol that pops into your head?
A carol is a hymn or religious song.. so the first song I thought of was not religious, "Silver Bells". so I guess for a religious carol it would be Hark the Herald Angels Sing which sounds kind of nice I think.
Do you notice how many words have lost their real meaning over time? Words like carol.
Carol: a religious folk song or popular hymn, particularly one associated with Christmas.
"we sang carols by candlelight"

6) Desmond wrote this song specifically for Barbra Streisand. Watching her record it was a dream come true and he found himself standing very close to her as she sang. When he asked if he was "hovering," she suggested it might be better if he gave her a little more space. Does it bother you when someone stands very close or reads over your shoulder?
I would prefer they didn't stand too close or read over my shoulder. It's very intrusive.

7) Fireworks were introduced to celebrate the 4th because they represent the "rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air." When did you most recently sing "The Star Spangled Banner?"
The other day while playing it on the piano.

8) John Adams predicted the 4th would be observed with "pomp and parades." Does your community have a parade in honor of the day?
Our community has fireworks on the beach over the bay... well my community is several towns all of which do fireworks.  No parade but big celebrations all over the place

9) Celebrity chef Rachael Ray says she considers mini-hamburgers, or "sliders," the All-American food.   What will/did you dine on this 4th of July?
Hot dogs with tons of fixings, French fries, southern fried chicken and all the stuff that goes with it.

Have a great weekend.

4th of July

F
riday signals the end of the week... a pretty good week.
Thursday  the Little brought me a bouquet of pink opal roses from the florist.. gorgeous!  Such a beautiful pink color.

We will be having a 4th of July picnic with hot dogs, fried chicken, French fries, maple baked beans, cole slaw and brownies for dessert.  We have chili for the hot dogs or sauerkrat, Wickles wicked good relish, mustard, ketchup and iced tea, Yoo Hoo and Samuel Adams , coffee and tea.
I had bought some Dolly Parton Duncan Hines chocolate frosting for the brownies and some ice cream as well. I already have all the ice cream toppings known to mankind.
We plan on seeing the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy and play some games, then at dusk we will sit outside and watch the fireworks over the bay.

Sometime last week I had said to God that we didn't have good old fashioned thunderstorms anymore and I wish he would send a few.  So he did.    Big ones and it was glorious.  Three days worth in a row!

As always I will read the Declaration of Independence on the 4th as our pioneer ancestors did back in the day.  My flags are out and waving wildly.
I hope you have a happy 4th and remember to celebrate this great nation under God and the pioneers who built the nation out of nothing and all by themselves.  .

The photo is from another year.. waiting for the fireworks to begin under a pink candy cotton sky.

Love, Yankee Doodle Annie...

It's Off to Work We Go!

Happy Tuesday

Welcome to Tuesday 4 started by Toni Taddeo and kept going in honor and memory of her.
This week we go back 5 years to ask again about work....

This week is about work.

1. Describe the best job you ever had why was it good? ( if it was awful, tell us about that instead )

2.  How did you learn to do your job?
By doing it really.   It requires a college education in pre-med  and  a hospital internship, then a you must pass testing from the American Society of Clinical Pathology to get your license.
My dad was  head chemist at a leading chemical company and  my mother was a registered nurse. I learned to love science at an early age. My favorite toy was my microscope.

3. You are now in charge of your town's public relations committee.. Tell us why we need to move to your town.
My town has a lot to offer.  Situated on Barnegat Bay and extending over to  the Barrier
The bay , barrier island and open ocean
Island,  with our very own ocean beach on the barrier island, it has plenty of beautiful beaches and parks and baseball/soccer fields to play in.  There is canoeing in the beautiful Pine Barrens on cedar water creeks that flow into the ocean and lots of camping and hiking. Wind surfing is also a big sport  in summer.
We have many marinas where you can keep your boat or rent a boat for a day visit.
In the summer we have concerts in the park with fireworks and in the nearby island towns there are fireworks every Wednesday evening in summer.
Our schools are great and we offer easy access to both Philadelphia and New York City.
Restaurants serve freshly caught fish the food is great here.
Crime is low in this area and the people are great.

4.
It's lunch time! Build your perfect sandwich for us.. what's in it and on it and what's in our cups?

Sliced turkey on Ezekiel bread, topped with cole slaw, swiss cheese and Russian dressing.    In New Jersey it's called a Sloppy Joe or Turkey Joe. Some put Pastrami on them , etc.  If you use corned beef or pastrami you need to use sauerkraut instead of the cole slaw and then its a Reuben. But you can mix your meats and still use cole slaw.
And guess what? You can find non-dairy swiis cheese but you have to really look for it.

I also love  a sliced ripe Jersey tomato on toast with mayonnaise,pepper... its very good.

In my cup:
If it's summer, unsweetened ice tea and tea or coffee in colder months.

Yes, thanks for taking part in Tuesday 4.
