By owning your hosted blog, you have much more control and give yourself the ability to use JAVASCRIPT services like Linky Tools directly in your blog posts instead of needing this extra page.

By having your own hosting account, you also control your own content and backup rather than hoping Wordpress.com never decides to go away, take down your blog or otherwise lose your content in some unforeseen event.
