Lights, Camera, Action - #MFRWauthor

Happy Friday. If you've been following my blog lately, you know today is #MFRWauthor blog hop day. This week's topic is about our favorite movies that were inspired by books.

I watch a lot of movies, but thinking of ones that I love and knowing if they were based off books wasn't an easy task. See I'm an action movie girl. I write romance and I read romance, but I love to watch me a great action flick. Then there's also the hiccup of me probably not reading a book that may or may not have inspired the movie I'm enjoying. So it was Google to the rescue for my picks to see if they were indeed inspired by a book.

All time favorite: V For Vendetta

Now it's not from a book, but instead a graphic novel by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd.

A powerful story about loss of freedom and individuality, V FOR VENDETTA takes place in a totalitarian England following a devastating war that changed the face of the planet.

In a world without political freedom, personal freedom and precious little faith in anything comes a mysterious man in a white porcelain mask who fights political oppressors through terrorism and seemingly absurd acts. It's a gripping tale of the blurred lines between ideological good and evil. **description from Amazon**

I'll watch this movie and never get tired of it. V is an interesting character to me because he's both the villain and the hero of the movie. He exacts his revenge against the wrongs done to him and others, but at the same time it's not just about him. His actions are for the greater good of his nation and he makes people challenge what they've been taught to believe. I will admit to not having read the graphic novel and I'm not sure I will since it might affect my love of the movie if things are too different.

A close second is James Bond. My hubby bought me the complete set for my birthday last year. Every Bond movie made, I was in Bond heaven. I had my favorite Bonds and for the longest time it was Roger Moore because he's the one I grew up with. However, Daniel Craig's Bond topped him. Followed then by Pierce Bronson. Watching the original Bonds with Sean Connery, man the names of the Bond Women, they were so comically bad. Hubs isn't into Bond like I am, but he watched the complete collection with me.

Last one I'll mention is Jurassic Park. It's one of those movies I've watched a million times but if I'm channel surfing and it's on I'll stop to watch. I was in high school when I first learned about the book. A classmate of mine was reading it and seemed to really enjoy it. Surprisingly, but not really, I never read the book. Not then and still haven't to this day, but I'll watch the movie. I didn't like the second one, but the others in the series were entertaining.

Okay, so not the last one. Sorry, but honorable mention would be Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. The book has been bedtime reading to my boys more than one. I like both versions of the movie as do my kids, but I lean more towards the Gene Wilder one. I was actually watching it the other night because it happened to be on TV.

So those are some of my movies inspired by book favorites. Let me know some of yours.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the other authors in the hop.

  1. You know, I don't think I've ever read a Bond book or watched a movie from start to finish. They didn't appeal to me when I was younger, but my tastes have changed over the years, and I love a good spy story now. I really must give them a try again!

    1. I've never read any of the books either. Heck when I was writing this post I'd totally forgotten it was based on a book until my friend reminded me. I enjoy them, but if you like your spy movies with a lot of mystery and intrigue these probably won't be for you. I think of them like Colombo in a way, you sorta already know the villain but watch anyway because it's entertaining.

  2. OMG....I totally forgot about Jurassic Park! I read the 2nd book first, then during the movie kept reminding myself 'they survive...they survive....'

I also love the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:)

    1. This turned out to be harder than I thought it would. I actually had to go back and amend my post since my friend help remind me of Bond which is huge for me.

I love the original one too.

  3. Mentioning the Bond books gave me a fond memory. For a while I couldn't get enough of the Bond books, the Saint series and Allister McLean's books. Preferred the Saint books to the movies. Now I have to go add to my TBR list.

    1. I should read one some day. As much as I love the movies, I should see what started them all. I've not heard of the Saint series. Something to go look into.

  4. I enjoyed reading Jurassic Park (the movie was slightly different than the book). I love Willy Wonka, too (but haven't read the book). On the same note, I love all the James Bond movies (although I'm NOT a Timothy Dalton fan, so his go to the bottom of my list, lol), but I haven't read any of the books. Adding to my TBR list...

    1. Isn't that always the way. The movies never match the book 100%. The only reason I've read the Willy Wonka book is because of my boys. Bedtime reading. :) I wasn't a fan of Timothy Dalton as Bond either, but he was way better than George Lazenby.

  5. I have Casino Royale sitting in my TBR pile. And I haven't seen the V for Vendetta movie. Gotta check that out!

    1. Oh, I'd love to hear your thoughts on V if you watch it. I love the movie. I need to add the Bond books to my TBR

  6. I loved the movie V for Vendetta, so powerful. And yes, graphic novels count. Loved both book and movie of Jurassic Park, but hated the movie version of the sequel, the Lost World. In the book T-Rex doesn't trash San Diego. That was stupid, IMO.

Not really a Bond fan either, maybe because the first ones I saw were the older, comically bad ones. Sean Connery was nice to look at though. ;)

    1. YES!!! Someone else that loves that movie. Man I can't get enough of it and never tire of watching it. Yes, even without having read the books, I hated movie #2. It was dumb and reminded me a bit of King Kong with the big beast destroying the city.

LOL the older ones are pretty funny. The sound effects and terribly staged fight scenes, but I just remember it was top stuff back in it's day and take it for what it's worth. :)

  7. I remember Rothrock movies being on HBO constantly around '90-'91. I always liked her, but could never fully love any of the movies.movie hd apk
