Our topic this week are those TV shows we love to binge.  Perhaps a better question for me is not which show, but what do they have in common? There’s  never just one, is there?  For me, my favorite binge shows originate from Britain (I’m an American).

The last shows I binged were Dr. Who, Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders and Murders in Suburbia.  I’m a diehard, lifelong, Whovian so of course I binge it. In this post, I’ll talk about those I got sucked into in other ways.

I started watching Doc Martin on Netflix when I was propped up on a couch recovering from foot surgery. Locked in place, and not being a regular TV watcher (not because I don’t like it, because I don’t have time), I had to find something to keep me busy. Quirky characters, difficult relationships, beautiful scenery and total unpredictability.   I was hooked. I even bought a subscription to Acorn TV  to see the last season, as Netflix didn’t have it.  Good thing too, since Netflix didn’t have the complete Midsomer Murders either. Acorn kept me up to date.

Once on Acorn, I fell into Murders in Suburbia, which starred Caroline Catz from Doc Martin. How could I say no.  For several months, I was handcuffed to my computer, binging one British murder mystery after another. From a person who barely watched TV, I got sucked into the maelstrom through a single show.

I’m binge free at the moment, but Sherlock just hit the airwaves. I’ll have to catch up some time?

  • I love Doctor Who and Doc Martin and Midsomer Murders! I haven’t seen Murders in Suburbia, but I’m definitely going to look for it.

    • I was coming down off Doc Martin and needed another fix. I even watched all Martin Clune’s animal documentaries. It was two female detectives which I liked a lot. The don’t do enough female buddies in mysteries.

    • I subscribed to Acorn for a few months just to catch up with Doc Martin and Midsomer Murders. Thanks for dropping by, Linda.

  • I love Midsomer Murders. It’s fun to see characters who are not young and flawless. As for Dr Who, I was addicted to Tom Baker’s episodes but couldn’t move on with the newer ones. I may have to give it another try.

    • I loved Jon Pertwee myself. If you decided to dive in, start with David Tennant, you’ll be hooked soon enough. I thought I couldn’t get beyond him as Bartie Crouch, Jr. but he pulled me in quick.

  • I hadn’t heard of Doc Marten. Will look into it. I do love British mystery and historical series. Just don’t get around to watching them even binging.

    • I don’t have much time for tv myself. I had foot surgery, with way too much time not mobile. That’s when I dived it.

  • I love BritComs but I guess I’ll have to try Doc Martin now, too. I must be the only person on the planet who didn’t watch/get addicted to Downtown Abbey, lol – I’ve never even seen an episode.
