Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

spooktacular-2016

Halloween is right around the corner. That means it’s time for the Spooktacular Giveaway Hop, hosted by Bookhounds!

So let’s talk about what spooks us.

I’ll admit that Pumpkin Spice Everything is really starting to creep me out. I like pumpkin pie as much as the next person, but seriously, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios? Never mind the Pumpkin Spice Triscuit crackers. That just sounds WRONG. But maybe not as wrong as the Pumpkin Spice Bailey’s and the Pumpkin Spice-filled Truffles. The only Pumpkin Spice thing I’ve liked so far is this one:

pumpkin spikes latte

So what are you scared of this Halloween? If you’re looking for a scary book to read, I highly recommend Teeth, Long and Sharp by Grace Draven, Antioch Grey, Aria M Jones, Jeffe Kennedy and Mel Sterling. All the stories in collection are good, but the last one, Voice of the Knife by Mel Sterling, gave me the shivers to the point I needed a hug and hot drink afterwards. And the hot drink was NOT Pumpkin Spice Anything!teeth long and sharp by jeffe kennedy et al

For Halloween, I have two books that have spooky-related themes, but are probably not too scary: Shadowed Souls edited by Kerrie L. Hughes and Jim Butcher here at Reading Reality, and Ghost Maker by Robin D. Owens over at the Book Pushers.

What scary books are you planning to read this Halloween? Or what’s your favorite scary book? Answer in the Rafflecopter for your chance at a $10 Gift Card or $10 Book. No pumpkin spice allowed!

  1. I don’t read scary books, the closest to scary I get and cozy murder mysteries, and they are not scary.

  2. Each Halloween I read the kids a different Edgar A. Poe story and this year will be “The Fall of the House of Usher”.

  3. I really dislike scary books. I can’t sleep if I read one. I’m currently reading a dystopian for my book club, Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel, and even that is enough to scare me.

  4. I don’t really read scary books anymore strictly because I always like some sort or romance involved in my books whether it’s a main component or even a little romance on the side. I can truly say that I would still, to this day, read any of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books. I LOVED them back when I was in Elementary School. Obsessed really.

  5. I just read In the Tall Grass by Stephen King and Joe Hill. It is a novella, just a quick read, but it was really creepy!

  6. I’m not typically scared by books but I do love The Passage Series by Cronin. I’m reading The Restorer by Amanda Stevens now. New author and series for me.

  7. The Boo Hag by David Morgan. I had to sleep with my lights on for a few days after that one. Thank you!

  8. My favorite book to read on halloween (and Christmas) is The Night Before Christmas , by Tim Burton. I have this lovely illustrated edition

  9. I like funny and/or sexy with just a touch of spookiness, like Mary Hughes’ BITING NIXIE or Tara Lain’s SPELL CAT series.

  10. I’m reading The Girl with Ghost Eyes right now. Not sure what’s up next, but it will be scary/spooky/creepy books for the next week or so.

  11. I don’t know! I need some serious recommendations for YA horror. I am in the hunt for a real YA horror that actually scares the crap out of me. So far, no luck. I had such high hopes for And the Trees Crept In, and while it was WONDERFUL, it just wasn’t scary. So frustrating. SO HELP PLEASE

  12. I’m in the mood for a “true” haunted house story. I really love the regional ones – lots of folklore in them, too.

  13. I LOVE Thrillers and Horror Stories and for those who are BRAVE enough, I highly recommend you read “The Fireman” by Joe Hill and “Disappearance at Devil’s Rock” by Paul Tremblay !

  14. Haven’t never read a scary book or horror book that scared me. Scary movies don’t really bother me. What movie did scare the heck out of me was the ‘Purge’ cause it is something that could very well come to pass.

  15. I don’t think I’ll have time to read much during Halloween 😮 But as a kid, my mom read us The Thousand Eyes Of Night by Robert Swindells, which then was pretty scary.

  16. I read Frankenstein last year and it really surprised me, it was a much more emotional read that it’s generally depicted as in movies or on TV.

  17. I don’t read scary but love paranormal romance. I love Richelle Mead’s vampire academy!

  18. I don’t read scary books much. I prefer suspenseful mysteries. I did read The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin and it scared me

  19. I like anything by Stephen King, especially “Needful Things”. Thanks for the chance to win!

  20. Okay so I’m a little ashamed to admit it but I have never read any Stephen King so I’m planning to do just that!

  21. I´m not planning on reading anything too scary, but I might just take a look in Tima Maria Lacoba´s Bloodgifted.

  22. I am usually not into horror novels but I wouldnt mind giving a maybe a vampire novel a shot!

  23. I really can’t think of any scary books. I don’t typically read them, so maybe that’s why, though. *Shrugs*

  24. Don’t read ‘scary’ per se. Crime thrillers are it for me. Such as THE FORGOTTEN GIRLS by Sara Blaedel or Last Ragged Breath by Julia Keller

  25. Steven King is the scariest, but I have been reading the funny witch books this season.

    Happy Halloween !!

  26. Right now I’m reading Ascenders: Skypunch. I read the first book Ascenders and really liked it. It’s creepy but it’s also tongue in cheek about what happens when you die. You could consider it paranormal too. The main characters are teens with a few adults thrown in…no pun intended, lol It’s by C. L. Gaber 🙂

  27. I haven’t read too many scary books besides a few Stephen King books. I don’t have a favorite.

  28. I’m not a fan of scary. Like sparkly romantic vampires not scary ones. lol I’m hoping to finish the Caedmon Wolves series this weekend.
