My Sexy Saturday (Dream Reunion, Old Blue Eyes edition)

Welcome to today’s edition of the My Sexy Saturday blog hop.

Today, i’ve got an excerpt from DREAM REUNION, featuring Sara’s mother (and a very uncomfortable moment for poor Sara!):

A little later, after we’ve put the twins to bed and Grace and Lizzie are washing up, Mom goes with me on the nighttime dog walk.  “By the way, Sara, why didn’t you ever tell me about ‘Guys and Dolls?’”

“Seriously, Mom?  Would you have told your mother what you talked about on a first date?”

She laughs.  “I guess not.  But I’ll tell you, it was nice seeing it again last night.  You know, I was always more of a Frank Sinatra girl, though.  Brando never really did it for me.”  I didn’t know that.  I didn’t really need to know it, either.  But Mom isn’t done yet.  “When we left – your father can be quite the romantic when he sets his mind to it.  He put on that CD he got for me for my birthday, and we lit some candles…”

“Mom!”  I absolutely, positively don’t need to know this!  Thankfully, just as I’m shouting, Chrissy does her business, which provides a perfect distraction.  I’ve never been so happy to clean up dog poop in my entire life.

Mom doesn’t say another word, but she’s got a very satisfied smile on her lips the whole way back to the house, and it stays there until she and Dad leave a half-hour later.  When we get into bed, I tell Brian about it, and at first he looks every bit as uncomfortable as I am, but then a thoughtful look comes over his face.

“I guess – I don’t want to think about it, either, but…”

“But what?”

“Isn’t it nice to know that when we’re their age, we’ll still be…?”  Yes.  When he puts it that way, it is nice.  It’d be even nicer if we could be doing it right now, but we still have to wait.  I settle for giving him a kiss and settling into his arms.  As consolation prizes go, that’s not too bad.

  1. Very interesting and nice snippet. I’ve actually tortured my kids with that same sentiment. LOL! Thanks for sharing and being part of My Sexy Saturday.
