Reflection on the 2021 A-Z Challenge

The A-Z Challenge is over and I successfully completed it for the 3rd time. It was a lot of fun sharing some of our favourite vacation spots in the USA and Canada. Hopefully everyone who visited found my photos and posts entertaining, informational or both.

I didnt get to visit as many people as i had hoped as i was not as prepared as i should have been. I plan to have everything lined up prior to April 1st so i can spend time visiting other blogs rather than completing posts and spending time doing that instead throughout April. I say that every year but lets hope 2022 is the year I do it right.

Im looking forward to the road trip. Hopefully your journey was not as frantic. Let me know how the A-Z challenge went for you :)

Yesterday we spent time in San Francisco. Today for our final day of the A-Z Challenge we hit the zoos. Amanda and I both love a good zoo.

One of our favourite zoos is the National Zoo in Washington. One of the main attractions here are the Giant Pandas

Flamingos at the National Zoo

He look cranky but was just yawning

Our local zoo in Norfolk is pretty good as well. Its a bit smaller than the National Zoo but has a good selection of animals

Yesterday we spent some time on the Ocean Road in California. Today we spend some time in the Golden Gate City (San Francisco) which is famous for its fog. Funnily enough we have been here several times and never seen fog.

We wanted to take a bay cruise so we lined up to buy tickets. A nice couple came up to us and gave us free tickets as they couldnt use them and didnt want payment. It was a nice blessing

The resident Sea Lions lazing about

We got to ride the cable cars a few times. The lines for these can be pretty long

Lombard Street

The Japanese Gardens are amazing and well worth a visit

Palace of Fine Arts

Main cell block on Alcatraz

Me in front of what is known locally as Postcard row. These are the houses used in the Intro to Full House

About 45 minute north of San Francisco is Muir Woods where there are a ton of Redwood trees. These trees are massive. Im 6ft 5in (1.9m)

Yesterday we went White Water Rafting. Today we highlight our Xtra long layover on the way home from Australia in 2006. Its a long way to travel straight from Sydney to Virginia so we chose to stop for a couple of days on the West Coast before flying across the country. We had seen most of San Francisco previously so we took a day trip down the Ocean road to Monterey

The scenery was stunning. Hard to get good shots from a bus window

Australia is just over the horizon (well about 7000 miles)

We stopped in Monterrey for lunch

The famous One Tree Hill near Pebble Beach

We stopped to see the club house and 18th Hole at Pebble Beach

Final stop was Carmel By The Sea. It was a quick stop and had a bunch of high end store. Amanda got to hold a Louis Vuitton bag (as we could not afford to buy it)

Yesterday we spent some time in Vegas. Today we are White Water Rafting. We rafted in West Virginia in 2005 and in Colorado in 2007. Today's photos are from the Colorado trip as we didnt have a waterproof case for the other trip

All the rafts are ready

The rapids on this trip were pretty tame

After we got off the rafts we got on this train back to town which took us through the canyon

Rafters going through the Royal Gorge. We did this trip the following day as i booked the wrong trip initially.

Yesterday we were on Top of the World in Colorado. Today we head to Florida to see Universal Studios. We visited in 2007.

Outside the Jaws Ride which was retired not long after we visited

I loved the theming of the New York section.

The themeing of the San Francisco is pretty good too.

The ET ride has been here for quite some time but is still a fan favourite

This was one of our favourite rides. It is interactive which makes it even more fun

Revenge of the Mummy was a decent ride as well

The Twister attraction was a little disappointing. I wouldnt queue up for it again

The Fear Factor experience was ok. It was somewhat similar to the TV show.
