Current Events Got Me Quarantined

Coronavirus
The panic over COVID-19 has brought out the worst in people.   People are angry at each other for going out to stores buying things someone doesn’t think they need.  Some of the folks on Facebook have been angry about what others are doing since he day Corona became a thing.  Then there’s the whole toilet paper, bread, milk, and meat thing.  I don’t know about where you live, but where I live, greed cleaned out every grocery store in three counties.  I wonder how many people had to throw away a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk because it ruined before they could consume it.  Some people had to go without while staying at home.

Quarantine
I’ve been at home for over three weeks.   I go to the store when needed, and sometimes when I could have done without.  I don’t mind working from home, because I’m introverted and a little anti-social. I haven’t been to a restaurant in about a month, not even fast food because I don’t know who may have corona’d on what.  I miss it.  I don’t mean I’m missing meals, because I’ve eaten plenty.  (By “plenty” I mean too much.)
Some states have lawmakers who issued ludicrous mandates for their states, including not being able to buy anything deemed non-essential.   Arts and crafts, games, and clothing are off the proverbial table.   And…seeds.  You know, because during a quarantine/pandemic, growing your own food is non-essential.  It’s so ridiculous it’s comical.  (If it’s not happening to you, that is.)   I wondered how long it would be before people would begin to rebel.  If we can judge by Michigan, yesterday was the day.  I wonder what took them so long?

Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer, tut-tutted the protestors and placed
blame on the DeVos family.  (Betsy DeVos is the Secretary of Education.)

Politics
I noticed that the Michigan protestors were conservatives and the governor is a democrat.  In some of the states with the most virus cases and the most restrictive stay-at-home orders, the governors are democrat.  Does it ever cross your mind that when this is all over lawmakers are going to see how easy it is to control the American people?   I understand COVID-19 is a scary thing, but so is the flu, and it kills just as many (actually as it stands right now, more) Americans than the coronavirus.   Come October when the flu season begins to rear its ugly head, what if certain lawmakers decided to shut down the economy again?   Control and power in the wrong hands is a potently bad thing.  Who would have thought it could go this far in 2020?  People have lost jobs, businesses have shut down permanently, the stock market is on a rollercoaster as unpredictable as my diet, and when this is over, we will adapt to new normal.  The way things were on January 1, 2020 will not be the same on January 1, 2021.  Some things will be the same.  I think Donald Trump will have won another election.

More Politics
I’m surprised but not all that surprised that Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee.  Some of the ones I thought would be real contenders were out pretty early, Kamala Harris was my biggest surprise.  On the other end, I was surprised Elizabeth Warren went as far as she did.  I didn’t think the DNC would let Bernie get the nomination, and of course, they didn’t.  I really won’t be surprised if the DNC pulls out a last-minute candidate.  Maybe Chelsea Clinton or Stacey Abroms.  Maxine Waters and Donald Trump in a debate would be funny to watch.

Television’s Supernanny
I don’t watch a lot of TV.   For nearly two years, we haven’t even had Cable TV in the house, but we do have the internet, so I’m really not missing much. I happened upon a show called Supernanny.  I’m sure you already know about Jo Frost, the English nanny who filmed shows in America ten or so years ago.   Anyway, this really isn’t about Jo Frost.  It’s about these parents!   How do they let their kids get to the point where they are slapping, kicking, biting, and cussing them…and they don’t do anything about it until Jo gets there?  “I just don’t know what to do!  Jo please come help me!”   (Some of the parents were still wiping their kids’ butts at 6 and 7 years old.)   I’m pretty sure that the first time my child hit, kicked, or cussed me, they’d think twice before doing it again, and think once more before sitting down for a while.   I just don’t get it.   It must be a thing, though, because she was able to do 8 seasons of Supernanny in America, and I hear that Lifetime is bringing her back this year.   I would like a follow up on some of the kids/parents 10 years later.  I don’t imagine updates are what Lifetime will be doing with Supernanny.

And that is all, Folks!
Stay Safe!

Top Ten Reasons to Ditch That Diet!

Dieting!  Dieting!   It’s just a bore!
I try and fail, then try some more.
Limited portions and watching fat,
Counting calories and things like that,
But all I ever really do
Is seem to gain a pound or two!

My Top Ten Reasons for Ditching That Diet:

  1. Being on a diet is like carrying around a 70-pound backpack full of loud little gremlins who are always poking you in the back and sides reminding you that “you can’t eat that!”  And you take it with you everywhere you go.
  2. You can’t relax at a party and enjoy socializing because you hear the party food talking in one ear (“Remember how good I taste!”) and the diet talking in the other ear (“Hahaha!!  You can’t eat that!”)
  3. You don’t enjoy a meal out with friends because your diet-mode brain churns the whole time.  Brain waves bounce from “Which entree is the safest choice?” to mentally berating yourself because you made a not-so-good decision.   The rest of the meal is spend having conversations in your head with every bite about how you get back on that diet tomorrow.
  4. Tomorrow rarely comes...

Thoughts so Uncommitted They Are Off the Charts

From the zoo...unfortunately, I can't remember which zoo...
I guess I knew it was going to be a bad morning around 7 a.m.

Well, no. It was maybe around 4:30, when I woke up and I knew I wasn't going back to sleep even though I had already been awake at least five times throughout the night.  We won’t talk about the last several nights in a row where sleep has eluded me.

Ever notice how you don’t think too much about the thoughtless things that people do until you start feeling sorry for yourself?  You know how that works?  Every offense for all of your life floods into your mind.  Or is that just me?

By the way my Committed Thoughts blog is fixed in case you hadn't noticed…but these are my uncommitted thoughts for my first post in two years.

On my way to work, I stopped at McD’s and buried my self-pity in a fast food breakfast and chocolate chip cookies.  It makes me feel momentarily better, which is a good thing since my attitude this morning has been anything but pleasant.

So I complain, though I know I do not have the right to complain, as blessed as my life is.  But the thoughts keep flying in, like darts in a bar room tournament…about the prayers I don't see answered, about my husband turning on his loud music right in the middle of my sentence as I’m answering the question he asked; about my daughter seeing my text messages, but ignoring them.  Or maybe I'll just feel sorry for myself because I have a potentially serious health issue, and I seem to be the only one who remembers it (which kind of makes sense that I would remember it).

In this mood, I even feel ignored by God.   I mean personally ignored…because He is indescribably good to mankind (and yes, to me), but I want my own personal, much deeper relationship with Him.  He seems to be hiding.  I want to know His voice like the Bible says His children will know…I have a lot of questions; I have too few answers…clear-cut answers.

Some days I revel in God's goodness, some days I wallow in self-pity. Today has started out as a wallowing kind of day.  I need to get my revel on.

Now to slingshot into a completely different vein (as I wonder if I’ve just used the proper spelling of “vein”):

One reason I don't have a political blog, although I'm very interested in politics, is because I know I'm right and have little patience for lies and those who refuse to believe anything but lies.  Lunacy.  Maybe I don’t have the tolerance it demands.  I feel the need to make a rebel stand…and speaking up for conservative values is being a rebel these days.

Maybe I’ll make this blog a political blog.  What do you think?  Does the world need one more politically conservative voice tossed into the abyss that is the internet?

A to Z ~Z~ Zeal

Zinnia
Zeal:  (definition) Great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.

Do not let your heart envy sinners,
But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day.
Proverbs 23:17 (NKJV)

Why be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day?
  • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.  (Proverbs 1:7)
  • The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.  (Proverbs 14:27)
  • He who has the fear of the Lord will abide in satisfaction, he will not be visited with evil.  (Proverbs 19:23)

A to Z ~Y~ Yokes and Youth

Yellow Hibiscus
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

He satisfies ours mouth with good things,
So that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103:5

Who doesn’t want an easy yoke and a renewed youth?

Lord, I want to always follow Your path,
it is so much better than my path could ever be.
Thank You, Yahweh.

Yahweh, in the morning You shall hear my voice.
In the morning I will lay my requests before You,

A to Z ~W~ Waiting

Wisteria
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Psalm 27:14

Waiting is hard.  I know I don't like it.  Especially in today's society, we want everything now!   But waiting is something that we as Christians will do, and we'll keep doing it until we go Home to be with Jesus.  The good thing about waiting is the rewards we reap.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

I'd say that's one pretty good reward for waiting.
