Personal Demons (Desolation Diaries #1)

17566885by

The Desolation Diaries #1

What happened after the story ended?

A Desolation Novella

What do you do when your past comes back to bite you in the ass--with very sharp, pointy teeth?

James thought life was good--living in Paris with Miri, not a single bad guy in sight.

Until the goddess Hel came to reclaim him.

REVIEW:

This is the story of James and how he became Hel's toy....

Forgetting how deeply he loves Miri, he is trapped and enslaved by Hel, the underworlds goddess.

I have enjoyed reading the Desolation series by Ali Cross and Personal Demons is another great read. Suitable for Young Adult audiences, who like to read about the battles between good and evil and angels and demons.

Ali has shown her talent as a writer once again in this story which links to the other novels in the series.

10701114 The Angels Are Here (Paradox #1)

Two mysterious strangers arrive just in time to help a little girl, Grace Connors, as she struggles to cope with the death of her father. But are the intentions of these strangers as innocent as they seem, or is there something else on their agenda?

Meanwhile, in an a faraway Realm, a race of fallen Angels clash with a ruling house of Angels. Their battle changes events in the Ancient World and the New World forever. A realm where a year can last centuries and an ancient magical people still rule, a realm where even the immortals face danger.

A story that will indeed leave you asking... Who, When, Where? WHAT!
My name is Juliette. Nine hundred years ago, I died. Today, I am alive... This is my story.

REVIEW:

This story is deep, dark and complex and readers will be intrigued from the very start.

Paradox - The Angels Are Here is based on the journey of souls from the moment of creation, tackling the cycles of life and death.

It is a book you need to concentrate to read and understand, but is well worth the effort. Patti Roberts' style of writing impressed me and her view of life and death in this novel certainly intrigues.

More than two hundred years into the future, human beings are an endangered species. The planet has been battered by war, its inhabitants plagued by disease and death. Few humans survived and remained unaffected. Most changed dramatically and evolved into something else entirely. Irrevocable alterations caused by chemical warfare have created a new species. North America is in ruins and has been overtaken. Humanity has fallen at the hands of mutants known as Urthmen.
Seventeen year-old Avery is alive and unchanged. But she has not been immune to the harshness of the new world. She has lived on the run for much of her life, in terror.
After losing her father, Avery is the sole guardian of her eight-year-old sister, June. Avery is now charged with June’s safety as well as her own, a nearly impossible task.
Forced to hide deep in the forest and away from the cities overrun by Urthmen, Avery and her sister are constantly hunted. Danger awaits them at every turn. They fear they are the only human beings left, that they are the last of their kind.
But are they truly alone?
Find out in this raw and rousing first installment of the Planet Urth series.

REVIEW:

Lurkers roam the land at night hunting. Avery and her sister, June hold up in a cave their father set up before he died.

Avery hunts and foragers every day to ensure their survival. Her afternoons are spent training June, but it is imperative they are both inside the cave and the huge carved boulder to block the entrance is in place before nightfall.

After a time Avery needs to travel further away to find food and one day happens to come across another family of humans. Hesitant, she watches from a hiding place among the bushes, not daring to make her presence known.

This intense story by Jennifer Martec will leave readers feeling somewhat unsettled by the hardship and loneliness the two girls face every day of their lives, just to stay alive.

Poison's Kiss (Deadly Beauties #2)

Alyssa has spent her entire life foolishly believing things are only laid out in black or white, but now she finds herself stuck in the gray area. The inner battle she faces with her own dark power that she has denied for too long starts to brew all the more fiercely. Kane's coldness breaks her heart even more than it's already broken, but fate's cruel sense of humor forces them to band together despite their torrid conflict.
The biggest problem... There are consequences she didn't know she'd have to face after giving herself to Kane, and she finds herself in pain each and every time she's near him. A pain that leaves her feeling like a puppet.
Hope rests on the shoulders of her enemies, and her allies pile up in all the wrong forms. When tragedy strikes, she's faced with more dark choices to make. Everything gets twisted, and she becomes stuck in the middle of an internal game of tug-of-war. Gage is there, but he's just as much her enemy as a night stalker. How can she trust any of them?
The world is fully of deadly beauties, and deception is their best played game. Alyssa keeps learning the hard way how true this is.

REVIEW:

Poison's Kiss is the second book in the series, Deadly Beautie, by CM Owens and continues the story of Alyssa, a witch with a very powerful family.

She is being hunted by Night Stalkers and has distanced herself from Kane, the guy she fell head over heels for in book one, believing him to be a werewolf.

CM Owens has written an exciting sequel where the plot develops to give answers to some of the questions raised in book one.

I am sure this book will be enjoyed by readers who enjoy the paranormal. It is targeted to a New Adult audience because of the light sexual scenes.

My Zombie Dog

Zane had the worst birthday ever. He spent it arguing with his Mum and burying a dead dog. Things just get worse. The next day Zane wakes to find the dog in his room, covered in dirt and… wagging its tail.

This is not Zane’s idea of the perfect dog. It’s shaggy, smells undead and bites people. And why does its victims all turn sluggish and keep asking for brains?

Can Zane can find the solution to save his neighbourhood from a zombie plague?
REVIEW:

On Zane's 14th birthday he has to bury his birthday present...a pet dog. When his mum comes into his bedroom the next morning she notices a disturbing smell.

Zane finds the dog (unnamed) is somehow alive and hiding under his bed he tries to do something about the offending odour. After many shampoos and bottles of his mums favourite perfumes the smell doesn't get much better.

This comical zombie tale by Charmaine Clancy is a fun, light hearted red and would amuse a young audience and adults who are young at heart.

Marked: A Two Halves Novella (Two Halves #1)

Shapeshifter Xander will remain stuck in oblivion between good and evil until he is marked—either with the sphere that will
identify him as a servant of the underworld or with the water mark, working for the keepers of humans, vampires, and warlocks.

One decision will mark him and his twin sister Mira equally. She is in love with a man bearing the water mark and wants Xander to follow the path of the good. But Xander loves a black witch, a minion of the underworld. All he has to do to join her forever is kill.

After all, there's something good about being bad.
REVIEW:

Xander and Mirra are brother and sister and they have a choice to make... to choose the side of good or evil

Unfortunately, other forces are at play to persuade them both to dedie to follow evils path.

This lustful novel by Marta Szemik is quite clever and the character Xander will be loved by all the lady readers.

It is quite an interesting story and is a little different than the norm. It is well written and is quite a engaging story.

The Moon Dwellers (The Dwellers #1)

13931214
In a desperate attempt to escape destruction decades earlier, humankind was forced underground, into the depths of the earth, creating a new society called the Tri-Realms.

After her parents and sister are abducted by the Enforcers, seventeen-year-old Adele, a member of the middle-class moon dwellers, is unjustly sentenced to life in prison for her parents' crimes of treason.

Against all odds, Adele must escape from the Pen and find her family, while being hunted by a deranged, killing machine named Rivet, who works for the President. She is helped by two other inmates, Tawni and Cole, each of whom have dark secrets that are better left undiscovered. Other than her friends, the only thing she has going for her is a wicked roundhouse kick and two fists that have been well-trained for combat by her father.

At the other end of the social spectrum is Tristan, the son of the President and a sun dweller. His mother is gone. He hates his father. Backed by only his servant and best friend, Roc, he leaves his lavish lifestyle in the Sun Realm, seeking to make something good out of his troubled life.

When a war breaks out within the Tri-Realms, Tristan is thrust into the middle of a conflict that seems to mysteriously follow Adele as she seeks to find her family and uncover her parents true past.

In their world, someone must die.
REVIEW:

This sci-fi dystopian novel is set in a future world where a meteor has destroyed the Earth. Mankind have taken to living underground to survive. Laws have ben revised and society now exists in three tiers. The Moon Dwellers being the closest to the surface and being the ruling power.

David Estes has developed an interest plot which revolves around the fight to survive and a struggle to defeat an oppressive rule.
Mixed with a star crossed romance taking on the main focus of the story and I am sure readers will enjoy the read from beginning to end.

Lust. Love. Obsession.
Just how far would you go in order to possess the one person you want the most?
 REVIEW:

Skye Sullivan in Mine to Take is a top ballet dancer, but when she has a serious car accident and her hole world goes to pieces. Desperate, she decides to ask for help from her ex, Trace Weston. Super hot, super rich and the owner of a top security firm. Skye believes she has a stalker and the police don't believe her.

This intriguing story will have readers guessing who the stalker is and if Trace Weston is someone Skye should trust.

Cynthia Edan has written a great suspenseful story and I am sure readers will be engaged with the story from beginning to end.

My Familiar Stranger

 (Knights of Black Swan #1)

She woke up to find modern day knights, elves, vampires, werewolves, witches, demons and fae. This is the story of how they became her allies, friends, and family.

REVIEW:

When a young royal witnesses her families murder in front of her eyes and is forced through a untested porthole to another dimentsion by her tutor Mong, she lands in a different world close to death.

Lucky for her the worlds she has been delivered to is well advanced in medical technology, but this world is very different from her own.

Real knights protect this world from the threat of paranormal activity. Yes, they hunt vampire!

Victoria Danann has written a refreshing vampire tale, taking the reader into a new world where elves truly exist and paranormal activities are studies and believed true.

Elora finds herself in the Black Swan base when she recovers from her injuries and learns she has become a new discovery for this society to uncover.

If you like a mix of sci-fi and paranormal romance, with some vampire hunting thrown into the mix then this novel by Victoria Danann is for you.

Well worth the read.

Michael (Path of Angels #1)

There is only one path.

Born mortal along with his three brothers, Michael is an Archangel with a specific role–to hunt fallen angels and send them back to Hell. He is determined in his mission, never straying from his appointed path, until he meets Lake Divine, and discovers there may be more to his beliefs than blind duty.

But Lake is not who he seems. Offspring of a human and a fallen angel, a Nephilim, Lake must choose his own destiny–give in to the coldness and embrace the dark, or seek the light and rise above the sins of his father.

Two paths lay before them, but only one has the potential to destroy them both.

REVIEW:

In this adult tale by Patricia Josephine, Archangel Micheal finds love in a place he would never have thought possible. He fights an inner turmoil to decide which path to take when he finally relizes he is in love.

This novella by Patricia Josephine may offend some readers, but if one keeps an open mind and reads the story for what it is...a simple story, I am sure it would interest many.

Taking on Micheal's choice to follow his heart may also raise some eyebrows, but in this modern era where ones sexuality can be explored it is a story with deep meaning.

 REVIEW:

Nesayiel, (Nessy) is a Sentinel, sent on a mission to destroy the beasts who prey on the innocent.

Disguised in human form she hunts her prey, but when the moment comes for her to carry out the task the demon reminds her of Adam, her lost love.

Confused and bombarded with memories she is unable to kill Ayden and she flees the scene. This decision eventually leads to many of her brethren dying by Ayden's hand which causes her more pain and torment.

This deep Angelic love story revolves around the memories of Nessy and Ayden's love, when they lived another life. Before their paths became separated by the Dark One's devious plan and readers will be swept up by the characters emotions and torment as they struggle to understand their feelings.

17306455 Lash (Broken Angel #1)

Soon, Lash will have to choose where to place his trust--in the home he has fought so hard to regain or in the forbidden love he can't bear to lose.

REVIEW:

Lash, (Lahash) makes a decision to not only save the boy he was assigned to but also saves a young girl for the impending doom of a plane crash.

Smug with immaturity, he is cast out of Heaven by Gabrielle for his mistake and as penance is now confined to the Earth to live among the humans in human form. His task is to watch over the girl he saved from the wreck, Naomi.

This unusual and quite twisted Angelic story by L.G. Castrillo is a great read and I am sure most readers will become attracted to Lash's bad boy charms very quickly.

18246648 Lillian Holmes and The Leaping Man

Tormented by a tragic past, Miss Lillian Holmes nonetheless found the strength to go on, to become the greatest female detective of her time. To make her uncle proud. Except...he was not truly her uncle. Sherlock was a fictional character, and Lil was less a true detective than a sheltered twenty-six year old heiress with taste for mystery...and morphine. But then she saw him. Leaping from her neighbor’s second-story window, a beautiful stranger. With the recent murders plaguing Baltimore, here was a chance to
reveal the truth.

Except, the Leaping Man was far more than he seemed. A wanton creature of darkness, an entry point to a realm of deception and evil, and to a Truth she had waited countless years to uncover, he would threaten far more than Lillian’s life. He would take both her heart and soul. And she would rejoice in it.

REVIEW:

Lillian Holmes is known to be an eccentric heiress who tinkers with inventions, One night, from her bedroom window she witnesses a man leap an incredible distance across the roof top of a neighbours residence. The next morning she learns her neighbour has died a mysterious death.

This book by Ciar Cullen is a suspenseful tale set in olde London town, when women were believed to be odd if they defied conventionality. Lillian is such a woman and is threatened by her guardian with being locked away in an asylum for her interest in inventions and walking the streets at night, investigating strange abnormalities.

With the threat of being locked away she hesitates to warn the authorities about what she witnessed the night her neighbour died.

Lilian Holmes and the Leaping Man is an intriguing read, full of suspense and is a interesting take n vampire romance.

Ciar Cullen has written an interesting story which will keep readers enthralled to find out what lies waiting for the beautiful, intelligent Lillian Holmes, who seems to have very few people in her life she can depend on and trust.

As tension between the former lovers mounts, something wicked is stirring in Scotland. Lou must use all her strength to handle the increasingly desperate situation, but will she be strong enough to battle both a vengeful ghost and her heart?

The Key Inheritance is a novella that takes place a decade after the events of The Burning of Isobel Key. This contemporary story crosses into the supernatural as Lou discovers evidence of a long-dead spirit who refuses to rest in peace. Lou may have thought that she was finished with the witch Isobel Key, but her inheritance is more than the young woman can handle alone.

REVIEW:

The Key Inheritance is the second book in this series by Jen McConnel and the MC, Lou is back in Scotland as the heir to an old estate given to her by an elderly gentleman she befriended on her vacation to Scotland years before.

Lou busies herself cleaning the house to be ready for sale and sorts through the items stored by the previous owner when she feels a presence.

Brian her holiday romance seems friendly enough, but Lou is wanting more than just a friendly hello.

This tale set in Scotland is a book suitable to those who like reading ghost stories. It is well written an quite an enjoyable read.

Kissed by Moonlight (Wild Hunt #1)

Phaedra Conners has been in short supply of normal ever since she shoved a car full of explosives off of a parking garage. Domestic terrorism would be an unappreciated skill set on any resume, so she’s a little surprised when she gets hired on as the personal secretary of multi-millionaire, Gabriel Evans.

Her new boss isn’t your average CEO, and when he finds himself falling for his assistant he knows that he’ll have to let her go. Especially if he wants her to survive the week. However, denying himself turns out to be much harder than he thought it would be.

Phaedra has spent most of her life digging up secrets.

But not every door needs to be opened and some skeletons like to howl at the moon.

REVIEW:

I really enjoyed this book by Adrianne Brooks, where the MC Pjaedra Conners is all action and punch, a very strong character, but still with femininity in tact.

Phaedra is a journalist and happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and becomes a suspect in terrorist activities and black listed by all magazine editors.

She finds a new job and is hired to investigate a particular CEO of a company with lots of secrets. Phaedra goes undercover to learn more which lands her in the middle of strange happenings.

This action packed paranormal is filled to the brim with punch and readers will experience a very exhilarating read from beginning to end.

No. She's not a vampire. My life is nothing if not original. Come closer, I'm not safe anywhere and I need to whisper ... apart from the book's opening pages, this is the only time I get to speak to you directly ... and I'm terrified that the vibe I'm giving off is too sane ... you see, that preternatural bitch I just mentioned has creatures everywhere ... listening. If that happens, who's going to watch Red's back? REVIEW:

This unusual tale by Boyd Brent reveals a world where beings from another dimension attack the human population causing all the insecurities and mental issues mankind suffers.

A young girl named Penny is aware of them and has named them Junkers, but they are called Preaches. She has an unusual talent to stop the Junkers from killing the people they can't change through a hippie dance and a little mental persuasion using her grandmothers tambourine. She hides from the Junkers by pretending to be a little mental, dressing in goth clothing and wearing unusual face makeup.

In this twisted story, Brent presents the reason mankind is on a downward spiral. It is suitable for an older young adult audience involving torture and death as Penny and her friend Red struggle to stay alive.

A - Z CHALLENGE CATCH UP

I must apologize for my lateness in posting for the challenge and not being able to visit those who have recently visited, but it was out of my control.

First my internet service provider worked on the lines in my suburb for a couple of days last week, but my line did not reactivate when they finished. I made the complaint call and waited for the techs to arrive.

After two hours of work by two technicians, a new port connection and a new modem I am now in back in business.

Tonight I have posted from E to I and will catch up with the rest tomorrow.

I hope you can understand and sympathize with my dilemma.

Hope you are enjoying the challenge,
Best wishes,

Immortal Dreams

From time travel, to witches and vampires, to forgotten goddesses, this anthology has it all with these three novels.

Book 1 - Blood's Fury (Deadly Beauties #1)
The world is laid out in black in white through the eyes of Alyssa Coldwell, until she stumbles into the gray area she naively refused to believe existed. Between love she never thought she'd find and the dangers of the world she can't accept, hope almost becomes a fantasy.

REVIEW:

Alyssa Coldwell, the MC in Immortal Dreams by Chrissy Peebles and CM Owens is a witch, she wants a life. A life of her own, without her mother, a very powerful witch, hovering over her every move.

Alyssa has been a target for the night stalkers since her birth and has been hidden from the world for her own safety.

She convinces her mother to allow her to move into her own house and to begin a life of her own.

Believing the protection spells cast on the house will keep her safe, she meets Kane, whom she believes is a 'normal', but he is not what he seems.

This book by Chrissy Peebles and CM  Owens is in three parts and is quite an entertaining read. The twist in the story will keep readers guessing and when Alyssa calls upon her father for help, all hell breaks loose.

Immortals And Melodies

  (Blood And Guitars #2)

I’m no stranger to chaos, but even the life of a rock star couldn’t prepare me for the consequences of loving a vampire. I’m risking more than my career to be with Aurora. My life is in danger, threatened by the very group I must join to stay alive. –Trey

I have to keep Trey alive until I can make him a vampire, but my own kind will stop at nothing to prevent it. The Emissary is having me followed, and if I can’t figure out who is behind the violent attacks Trey won’t make it to the full moon. Am I even powerful enough to carry Trey through the change, or will he be left floating in the wake of destruction? –Aurora

REVIEW:

In this second book of Blood and Guitars, titled Immortals and Melodies by Heather Jensen, Aurora has changed Trey into a vampire and the Emissary (the ruling elders of vampires) are not happy.

Members of Trey's band are being attacked and killed and Aurora is having to ensure their safety. She is unsure of who she can trust to help her keep Trey alive until the next full moon, when his transformation will be complete.

This sequel continues the love story of two soul mates who join together in a world of vampire control. The problem is Trey is a well known musician and The Emissary don't like his popularity shedding light on  their kind and to stop the secret of vampires living among humans, they want Trey dead.

Both main characters are well created and quite believable and Heather Jensen seems to have a broad knowledge of the music industry making the story quite real. If you enjoyed the first installment of Blood and Guitars I am sure you would enjoy book two.

Immoral: Tales of a Vampire Hunter (#1) Immoral: Tales of a Vampire Hunter (Tales of a Vampire Hunter #1)

Immoral is the first book in the Tales of a Vampire Hunter series—richly imagined, sexy, paranormal romance thrillers filled with heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Star-crossed lovers threatened by dangerous secrets . . . but no secret stays hidden forever.

REVIEW:

Oliver Ripley is a Vampire Hunter and so are the rest of his famly, but to kill vampires these hunters don't uste stakes, garlic or holy water, no the kill vampires during a good old romp in the hay, where their soul does battle with the vamp's.

When Oliver meets Miranda, he feels drawn to her, as if he was meant to be with her, the only thing is she is a vampire, born into the ruling house of Vladulas.

He knows he can't have a normal relationship with Miranda without killing her, but still he can't stop himself from seeing with her.

This very unusual storyline in Immoral Tales of a Vampire Hunter, by Zander Vyne is quite engaging and although the story's core revolves around sex, it is not a sexually explicit tale and would suit a New Adult audience.

Immortal Blood (Immortal Heart #1)

A perfect night on the town turns out to be her worst nightmare. A date with a handsome man is the catalyst for events that she thought only happened in fairy tales. Thrust into a world of danger, Isabelle has no idea what is in store for her as the Light and Dark Fae fight over her future.

Isabelle Moreno is a young woman working her way through life, finding little time for love and adventure. Until she agrees to a date with a mysterious stranger, only to find out the secrets this man holds are something she could have lived her entire life without knowing. The Dark Fae Luck Eater has found something enticing in Isabelle’s humanity.

Bain is an arrogant playboy and an Immortal Light Fae Warrior. He and his four brothers fight for the safety of the human race while remaining something of myth. After weeks of tracking the Dark Fae Luck Eater, Bain comes across yet another victim, Isabelle.

Bain has finally found his match in this feisty human as she fights against him and her ever growing attraction to the Immortal who is bound to protect her.

REVIEW:

Isabelle is pressed into a blind date by her sister and is quickly swept up in Zander's charms. The only problem is he is a luck eater.

She is saved by two Immortal Fae who are part of a team of immortal warriors who protect humans from the evils of the Fae world.

This intriguing love story by Magen McMinimy is a light read and quite entertaining and readers will fall in love with the characters, especially the Immortal Warriors. One in particular called Bain.

23208924 The Initiate (Rifters #2)

by
A junction erupts between the worlds in Settler, Oregon, a rift from which horrors attack our world. The Rifters defend us.

To trust unquestioningly is the first lesson Daelin Long must learn as the newest Initiate of the Rifters. Her first day is a disaster. She stands on a deserted street in a town smaller than a city district, courting killer rocks from another world with her ancestor from the Revolutionary War. Normal no longer exists.

While she struggles, Earl Blacke grapples with atoning for his past ill deeds, running far and fast from Settler, Oregon. The Shaman of the Desert promises him redemption, and an old Tmine puts the possibility of a gold strike in his grasp. His luck has changed for the better, but he can’t have both.

You're never a hero until you are.

REVIEW:

The second book in M. Pax's Steam Punk series The Rifters, answers some of the questions the MC, Daelin Long wants to find the answers to. She is initiated into the Rifters and is given her own tattoo and device to track the rift. Although Daelin is not given many instructions about how to use the technology before the town of Settler is attacked and sent into chaos.

Meanwhile Earl Blacke is on a trek to discover his own path, leaving behind the township of Settler he ventures into the desert and meets up with a very strange lady who helps him to discover a way to help the problems caused by the dimensional visitors.

M. Pax presents an entertaining story from start to finish and the reader will be left wanting to learn more.
