Hoping to learn

I am hoping to learn and learn and learn from a blog hop about marketing a book. My background is as an entrepreneur in retail, always working on a shoestring advertising budget. This time big balloons and kids on bikes with flyers isn’t going to work.  Maybe I’m short-sighted, but I don’t see it happening. My favorite advertising stunt was sending two barbershop quartets, one male and one female, through a twenty plus story building as a Valentine’s Day thank you for all of our clients. It was a huge success and became an annual event. I look forward to reading and hearing about all the creative ideas others have in this strange new world.

  3. Yes! Bring on the spontaneous choir! If I could pull together a couple talented friends, I'd go do this myself: pick a busy location and SING my book into success. LOL!!! Of course, what would I do with my kids? Hm.

    1. Kids? Bring them along. Mine were always involved in every hair-brained advertising scheme we came up with. They had some pretty good ideas, too. But, I admit, only a few that we could use.

    1. This idea was my favorite, too. I love good harmony. Now, if I could always find that in my words.

  6. Wouldn't that be interesting to have people singing about "Hurricane Crimes", my debut eBook. :P

    1. You never know. I knew Mask Among The Bones wouldn't fit, but I bet if we all put our heads together we could find a book or two that would make a good musical.

    1. By now, as you've wandered from post to post as I have, you feel like your mind is overflowing with all the new possibilities. The quartet was for a tech company and we got big bang for our bucks. Now if only I can manage to transfer some of that experience to the publishing world.

  8. Sounds like you've got the marketing mindset. Creativity makes the big difference in successful marketing and you never know "What Works" until you try it. Keep experimenting and I wish you success with book marketing. It's not all that different from other kinds of marketing when you really think about it.

    1. The barbershop quartet idea took our company over a million in sales for the first time. I have hopes that some kernel of an idea I found out in the blog hop today will open my eyes to some new possibilities. Thanks for the support.

  9. That was an awesome idea! I know that the better organized and yes the more anal you are about an event can make it a wonderful success. Passion for the product, the goal is also most important especially when it comes to fundraising.Hit people emotionally and you've won!

    Thanks so much for participating!

    1. Thanks for the response and moral support. I live in a very, very small community now so it is hard to do some of the face to face promotion I did in the past. Selling a book and myself as an author through the seeming void of the internet is daunting. Now, I don't feel quite so alone.

  10. Hi! Nice to meet you.

    Barbershop quartet. Totally unique! :-)

This blogfest has given me lots of awesome tips. Will go back to all of the sites and follow them all (if I haven't done so yet). For now, I'm having a great time reading and learning from them, and leaving comments. I'm glad I participated in this event. I do hope that you and the others would find my post helpful even if it's kinda long. :-)

    1. Nice meeting you, too! I look forward to chatting with as many posters as I can. I have found some wonderful ideas. I'm so new I don't have any real experience, good or bad. I hope that my past endeavors will help me see the light as I enter this new stage in my life. And I hope that those who have been here a little longer can help me focus that light.
