I am enjoying this marriage meme. It’s nice to think about my marriage and how far we’ve come as a couple. This week’s topic is: Wedding Day.
As I’ve mentioned before, we were poor. I think dirt is richer than we were. Hee hee. We were two young people who had been living together for a year getting married. There, I said it. We were living together. It’s not something I am particularly proud of because I knew that it was against God’s plan for marriage. At the time, it was the only way I knew how to get out of my abusive father’s home. I wasn’t safe. I wasn’t happy. I needed to get out. Period. Pat and I were spending every waking moment together when we weren’t at work (and don’t forget we worked together). It seemed like a good thing to do. While we are in confession mode….I also married an unbeliever. Why? Because my FATHER is a believer. This was my thought process at the time, “If this is the kind of man a Christian is supposed to be then I’ll marry the complete opposite.” I wanted no part of Christianity. Notice I didn’t say God. I knew that my father’s behavior wasn’t Godly. I knew he was a sinner and I didn’t blame God for it. God doesn’t condone people like my father.
Back to my wedding. It was the happiest day of my life. We married exactly two years to the day of our first date. Yep, it was on purpose.
We got married in my parent’s church. They have a big, beautiful church and I knew they would do it for free. In our financial condition, free was AWESOME. ;)
Here we are getting ready:
My mom and I……
My bridesmaids and I. I didn’t pick a maid of honor. These two were my best friends in High School and they were both already married.
My sister and I:
My husband and his Best Men:
Getting ready to walk down the aisle: (Pat and the guys waiting for me)
My father and I:
Pat coming down from the platform to meet me:
When the pastor said, “You may kiss the bride.” Pat lifted my veil…or tried. He nearly pulled it off my head. You could see that on the video.
Ironically, my wedding lasted SEVEN MINUTES from start to finish. It’s probably the quickest wedding known to man. ROTF!!!!
This is one of my favorite photos of the two of us:
Some of the photos of our families:
This is us on our way to our NOT Honeymoon. We couldn’t afford one. We didn’t have one. In 2000, after a very bad time in our marriage we spent a weekend away from our three kids and had a sort of honeymoon:
and that completes this week’s Completing Him series. Join us if you’d like.

PS….I want to note that I am very grateful that I took the time to scan these photos before our packers came to pack us out. Today we got a phone call from the moving company. Our stuff was left on a truck over the weekend. Some arsonists decided to set the truck on fire. We have lost at least half of our Household Goods. We aren’t sure of the extent of the damage at this time. I do know that my wedding photos and many of our kid’s baby books and photos were on that truck. It’s gone. All of it. These scans of these few photos are what I have left of my wedding pictures.
