Post about a book you've noticed. You can choose a book that you've read, something you saw on a blog or social media site, Goodreads, or a sales website. Anything that caught your eye because of a great cover, blurb or reviews, but DON'T tell the author that their book has been noticed. Instead, shout out on social media sites, and encourage others to do the same, until the author finds his/her book.
Leave a blog comment at Ninja Captain Alex's BLOG or Ciara Knight's BLOG when the author finds their book.
Only two rules:
- You can't post about your own book.
- The book shouldn't be on the New York Times or USA Today bestseller list.
This is your chance to shout out about a book that might not have been noticed by others.
I had a hard time deciding which book to post about for this. I follow hundreds of authors, many of whom have published their work, and they're all impressive. However, as I had to narrow it down to something, here's what I went with:
Year Zero by Rob Reid.
An alien advance party was suddenly nosing around my planet.
Worse, they were lawyering up. . . .
In the hilarious tradition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Rob Reid takes you on a headlong journey through the outer reaches of the universe—and the inner workings of our absurdly dysfunctional music industry.
Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it’s a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news.
The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity’s music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang. The resulting fines and penalties have bankrupted the whole universe. We humans suddenly own everything—and the aliens are not amused.
Nick Carter has just been tapped to clean up this mess before things get ugly, and he’s an unlikely galaxy-hopping hero: He’s scared of heights. He’s also about to be fired. And he happens to have the same name as a Backstreet Boy. But he does know a thing or two about copyright law. And he’s packing a couple of other pencil-pushing superpowers that could come in handy.
Soon he’s on the run from a sinister parrot and a highly combustible vacuum cleaner. With Carly and Frampton as his guides, Nick now has forty-eight hours to save humanity, while hopefully wowing the hot girl who lives down the hall from him.

Now that one sounds good - science fiction and music!
Thanks for participating in our blogfest.
This sounds like a rollercoaster ride of a read. good choice.
I've never heard of it, and I don't typically read that genre, but it actually sounds pretty darn good.
I love a great science fiction. The cover is awesome in its simplicity. Thanks for participating!!
Oh this sounds great - if it's a third funny as The Hitchhiker's Guide then this book's for me. Off to Amazon (for about the tenth time today). Good one, GE!
i loved hitchhikers guide! if it is like that i cant wait to read it! thanks!
Loved reading about this book. Thanks for posting Golden.
And this sound a good blogfest to bring fellow writers books out in the open.

That sounds like a fun read. No, never heard of year zero! I'm participating in the blogfest, and the book I chose is Time's Enemy by Jennette Marie Powell. It's book 1 in the Saturn Society novels. I also added the second book, too, just in case anyone wanted to check out both of them. Book 2 is Time's Fugitive. I read them both and I think they're fantastic. It's obvious the author did a ton of research for the historical settings, and I love how the MCs hop from one time period to another to escape the danger they're in.
The premise for this book sounds like it could have readers turning the pages and enjoying the fun all the way through. Go Rob Reid!
This sounds hilarious. I wish we had copyright police.
I'm not usually a sci-fi fan, but this sounds great!
That first line really grabbed me. Great choice!
I've not heard of this book but it sounds like fun and anything with a whiff of Hitchiker's Guide is a-ok with me!! Yay! take care
x
"Galaxy-hopping hero" - lol. This is a great choice and I've not seen this one before today. Thanks!
This sounds hilarious. I need to read this one.
What a cool idea for a blogfest!
Hey Golden Eagle,
Wow, what a super choice! "Year Zero". Great concept. Thanks.
Gary :)
This has the fun feel of the Myth Inc. books.
Thanks for dropping by my blog.
Science fiction is grand, works for my land and neat idea too.
This one already has me laughing and I haven't even read the first line! Definitely adding it to my list :)
Sounds like a hoot!
Okay, this book sounds hilarious! And what a great idea for a blogfest. :)
TGE, this cover definitely says Sci-Fi to me.
Since I love Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy this sounds right up my street! Great pick, Golden Eagle.
Jai
ha! I LOVE the cover of that book!
Ha; the premise sounds nuts on this one! Sounds like a fun read though :)
Jamie
What a great pic and the cover rocks! This sounds like such a fun read. Thanks for sharing, must add this to my list.
I don't usually like sci fi but this sounds hilarious! Might have to give it a try! :-)
Hi GE .. this definitely sounds interesting and I'll add it to my TBR list - love your review - sounds entertaining fun, with some serious aspects in it ... cheers Hilary
I'll have to tell my boys about this. Sounds fun!
HA! Aliens lawyering up! The premise is brilliant! I love it!
Very cool idea. I'll try to get involved if I can squeeze out a few minutes this evening.
Never heard of this! But Rob's book looks fantastic... thanks SO much for sharing! This blogfest has been really fun to visit...
Aliens! I want to find this book!
Allons-y!
Awesome! Wish I had known about this I would have hopped in.
This looks like such a fun book! Love the cover!
That sounds awesome! :D
That sounds exactly my speed.
my tbr pile is actually a bookshelf. My read shelves are downstairs in the den, my tbr shelf is in my bedroom. Looks like I've got about 60 books or so in my pile.
That doesn't count my 'virtual' pile of ebooks. I'd say I've got over a hundred I'm trying to get through. I'm still working my way through the Border's sell off a year ago when the went belly-up.
I've heard very good things about the book you chose for this. I hope to read it one day.
That sounds awesomely funny - I need to read that soon. Thanks for the pick!
This one is totally new to me. But what a great premise! Thanks :)
What a great idea, I'm loving your choice. Mine would have to be The Owl Killers by Karen Maitland which isn't about the killing of birds as the title might suggest.
I'd suggest David Wong's This Book is Full of Spiders but it already has a lot of attention on it.
Wow, that sounds like it's packed with brilliant ideas. I love Hitchhiker's. Adding it to my list!

A lot of books got featured, that's for sure.
LynNerdKelley: I love the sound of those books. Time travel is awesome. :)
Angela: Indeed!
Susan: Well, some people would probably argue we do in the form of takedown notices and ISPs and governments shutting down people's internet . . .
Connie: It sounds like it could have a lot of cross-genre appeal.
J. A.: Thank you.
Old Kitty: Douglas Adams was such a fun writer. :)
Brinda: You're welcome!
Mary: Me, too.
Karen: Alex and Ciara really pulled it together well.
Klahanie: Thank YOU for coming by!

Rusty: 160+?! Those are a lot of books to read.
Tyrean: You're welcome!
Carol: I really liked the premise as well. Hilarious.
Petty Witter: I remember your review of The Owl Killers. It's on my TBR now. :)
DWei: I have John Dies at the End on hold at the library; planning to get around to This Book is Full of Spiders after that.
Nick: It's one of my favorite series.
I'm outlining something similar based on Hitchikers Guide. A crazy zany madcapped and kind of dark humor story/
Best wishes to Rob Reid and his book!
This sounds a very funny book. I shall have to get this one.
SUCH a cool idea fora blogfest! Great choice of book.
Oh, this sounds like fun, a bit like Christopher Moore.
Nope, I've never heard of it but it sounds interesting. My list of TBR is getting soooo long! :)
I picked up a book this last Spring that was so phenomenal I couldn't believe I hadn't heard of it before. It's called "Gormenghast" by Mervyn Peaks...it's gothic fantasy...all I can say is that MP had an amazing gift for creating character. It's a trilogy but I've never read the other two (Titus Groan is the second I think) I'm curious to know if you've ever heard of it or read it?
Hahahaha this blurb alone had me laughing. I'll definitely read this one. :-D
I like the sound -- and look -- of this one; nice choice.
Stephen: Sounds awesome. I love those kinds of books. :)
Paul: I'll have to do the same!
Talli: Thank you.
Mshatch: Christopher Moore? I've never read anything by him.
Scarlett: LOL. Mine too. :)
I've heard of the author and Gormenghast--but I've never read it. I will have to check it out.
Misha: I thought the blurb was funny, too.
Milo: Thanks! :)
That sounds really cool! I'll have to check it out. :D
What a great idea! This book sounds terrific.
What an awesome concept!! Sounds like a ton of fun - thanks for the tip :)
This book sounds fun, and it's one I'd not heard of before. Great choice!
Shannon at The Warrior Muse
As I'm a huge Hitchhiker's fan, I can appreciate some more sci fi comedy. Thanks for noticing this. I'm on the lookout for it now. :)
Mikazuki: Glad you like the sound of the book. :)
Beth: It's certainly an original book premise.
Jemi: You're very welcome. :)
Shannon: Thank you!
David: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is one of my favorites, too. Humorous SF is awesome. :)
I want to read this book. I love the description. Now I'm off to Goodreads to add this to my wish list.
Medeia: I really like the blurb too.
Sounds like a fun read, and I hadn't heard of it before. Thanks!
Thank you so much for you cover input and the colour wheel idea! I found one online and it helped a lot! Clever things, those.
Allons-y!
Lydia: You're welcome!
Jack: Glad I could be of some help. :)
This sounds like such a fun blogfest idea! And the book certainly sounded intriguing.
Just wanted to also thank you for your comment on my blog today - I'm so, so happy you liked THE LOST GIRL! Thanks for picking it up :-)
'Year Zero' sounds hilarious! I loved Hitchhiker's Guide, so I'm sure this one will be right up my alley!
I think this Blogfest idea is a lot of fun. Did the author ever find you?
Sangu: You're welcome. :) I'd been planning to read it ever since I'd heard it was being published!
Mywithershins: I don't believe he did. But maybe with time I'll sneak up the search engine listings or something.
