Genre Favorites Blogfest

Alex J. Cavanaugh is hosting a blogfest…

A Genre Favorites Blogfest
One blogfest, four favorites!

List your favorite genre of:

Movie

Music

Books

And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!

So here it goes.

Movie:
I’m not too terribly picky when it comes to movies. I’ll watch an action flick with the hubby, a kid film with the boys. But my true favorite (which I normally will not own up to) is a good romantic comedy. In fact, I must have seen While You Were Sleeping close two dozen times. I even have 1980’s faves on my CD shelf like Pretty in Pink and Peggy Sue Got Married. I’m a sucker for romance in movies.

Music:
Definitely rock. Some classic, some alternative, some modern, some 80s. Though my iTunes collection is much more widely eclectic than that.  There’s even a little country on my playlists. Mainly Keith Urban, who I hear is slated to be an American Idol judge. Too bad we don’t have television stations in our house.

Books:
I have two: contemporary fiction (adult or YA) and memoir. I’ll read outside of those two genres on occasion, but they are my go-to genres by far.

Guilty Pleasure:
I think kid movies and kid shows. I have fond memories after my second son was born of getting up late in the night to feed him and turning on the TV channel, Sprout. I adore Kipper and Pingu. Then shows such as Caillou and Diego remind me of the days when my older son was a toddler. Plus, I truly enjoy watching the Pixar movies of today. Watching these things is one of the many perks of having children.

  6. Love Pretty in Pink and all 80's movies and music. I do believe that one of the perks of having kids is having an excuse for going to see children’s movies.

  10. I totally get that about the kids shows - I kinda miss some of the ones from when my two teens were little. Arthur and Thomas the Tank Engine especially.

  14. I love to look at Keith Urban, but I have to admit I don't know his music. You've inspired me to change that. Love your choices, especially your guilty pleasure. I love having kids, because then I have all the excuse I need to be excited about a Friday night premiere of some teen movie on Nick or Disney. ;-)

    I'm #173.

  15. Hi Susan, Keith Urban is one of the few country singers I can tolerate. I hadn't heard that rumor about him being on American Idol!

It sounds like you're an 80's fan...I love Sixteen Candles.

  16. Hey, we had two out of four matches. I also chose Romantic Comedies for movies and kids' animated for guilty pleasure. There seems to be a lot of us out there.

  17. I love Eighties music too. Now it's not only the music of my childhood, but also a big inspiration for my contemporary historical WIP. Though I haven't seen a huge amount of Eighties movies, since I've always been far more into silents and early sound films.

  18. You've got a wide variety of answers which shows your open-mindedness...no surprise since you are a great writer :-)

  20. LOVE your choice in movies! WHiLE YOU WERE SLEEPING is one of my fav Christmas movies.

PRETTY IN PINK ... THE ULTIMATE 80's brat pac pic. LOVE IT!

  21. haha...Pretty in Pink! Awesome movie. Along with Sixteen Candles, of course. The eighties had some great movies, didn't they?

And no shame in kids shows. I listed animated movies as my favorite genre. I just thought about it and realized that, as a whole, I'll rewatch an animated film (especially Disney/Pixar) way more often than most regular movies.

Anyway, I'm just making my way through the blog hop, having fun finding new sites. I'm a new follower btw.

Love that you are re-reading the Harry Potter books. (I saw you'd just finished it for the second time on another one of your posts.) I'm re-listening to the books on audio. Jim Dale is amazing, he takes Harry Potter to a whole different level!

    Nice to meet you! :)

  22. Hi, Susan. I'm a horror writer who loves his Rom Coms and rock n roll, so I had to stop and say hello.
    Thanks for sharing.
