Movies: Fantasy
I was going to say Science Fiction for this category . . . but then I realized that a lot of my favorite movies (The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) are Fantasy. I've seen more Fantasy than SF.
Music: Classical
I do like some contemporary music. But classical is the type I can listen to non-stop, and there are so many amazing composers/works that have emerged over hundreds of years.
Books: Science Fiction
Would you believe I used to somewhat avoid SF? I'm not really sure why . . . but most of my reading was Fantasy/Contemporary before I began writing my first novel, which was inspired by a Science Fiction book. And now I'm a bit obsessed with the genre.
Guilty Pleasure: Books: Young Adult Dystopian
I suppose you could put this under Science Fiction, but Dystopian (particularly YA Dystopian) has its own distinct traits. The genre can be very formulaic, predictable, and after reading too much of it I begin to feel like the future is a mire of hopeless politics and oppression (not to say that current events are full of sunshine and optimism, of course), but I do enjoy the character development that usually comes with the protagonist's refutation of their world's rules.

I love classical, too, piano concertos mostly. But YA dystopians make me want to yank out my hair by the roots!

Yep sci-fi and fantasy are grand, but many a movie is liked in my land.
Nice list...I would love to see movie studios focus more money/time on creating great sci-fi/fantasy movies. I mean, the superhero movies (which I guess count as fantasy) are great and all...but that genre has been overdone. I'd rather see a space opera (another Star Wars type of movie) than the tenth reboot of a famous superhero.
Yeah, I definitely have a lot of movie favorites in the fantasy genre. I mean, LOTR and Harry Potter are some of the best book to film adaptations I've ever seen.
And I love classical music. It's what I write to a lot.
I agree that I watch more Fantasy than Sci Fi. I thought it was the other way around, too. But I watch more rom-coms than anything. :)
I picked scifi for movies; there's just too many I can warch over and over whereas a drama I watch once and that's it. Like your picks :)

It's true that good character development can make even a formulaic book worthwhile.
Sci-fi is good stuff. I do enjoy classical music, too, especially Bach.
YA dystopian is a good one to pick. Have you read Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking trilogy? It's fantastic!

I adore classical too. I've probably spent more time listening to that than anything else, although I like rock and alternative etc. But classical just soothes the soul.

Science fiction seems to be popular today. I like some classical music also, especially with brass featured
I haven't read a lot of dystopians since I usually stick to contemporary. But I enjoy them because they tend to be darker.
I jumped from fantasy to science fiction in my reading.
Science fiction and suspense is what I write, however.

I haven't read a ton of sci-fi, which is funny--because both books I've writtten are pretty much light sci-fi. (Heavy on the light) haha.
And I really like YA dystopian. You're right, it can be a bit formulaic, but it's almost always a fun, exciting ride. :)
I love fantasy movies and classical music. I was never much of a sci-fi fan until Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (the syfy series)came along.

Except for music, we're a lot alike. YA dystopians do sometimes seem to follow too close to a blueprint.

Lately I have been all about the Young Adult Dystopian novels too.
I'm a big fan of dystopian too, especially when the writer pulls in some unique world detail or really develops the characters!
Dystopian novels have been high on my reading list lately as well. Must be a sign of the times.
I like fantasy and sci-fi books and novels. And classical music is nice - especially when I'm writing. Helps with concentration.

Jazz is my personal, relaxing, listening genre BUT I am a classically trained pianist and so I love classical music especially Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and a few others...

I'm enjoying the Tales of the Goldstone Wood series by Ann Elizabeth Stengl... I think it's more fantasy/allegory... really wonderful, though!
Ha, I know what you mean about dystopian stories becoming a little depressing after a while - I tend not to read too much of it for that reason. It is fun, though. :)

I think there's some overlap between Sci-fi and fantasy, so it makes sense that you would like both. Both genres see how far you can take the power of imagination.
My favorite movie genre is Fantasy too, though I probably watch a lot more Sci-Fi-ish things. I feel like Hollywood tends to go for future-fic more often than straight up fantasy, but both are fun to watch on the big screen. :)
Guilty pleasure - it's not really guilty, but I'm addicted to crime dramas. They're all pretty formulaic and some of them are only so-so, but I love watching them. :P

Mywithershins: It depends on who you talk to. There are SF writers who will staunchly oppose its inclusion in SF and others who think it does belong in the genre.

Hmm... Science fiction, fantasy, country, in no particular order, and - I can't really think of an entire genre that's a guilty pleasure for me in books or movies. Maybe prime-time soap television, or cheesy paperback fantasy like Piers Anthony.

I enjoy dystopian and fantasy, as well. Even sci-fi, but to a lesser degree (well, it depends upon how in-depth they get into the science).
My Genre Favorites & Guilty Pleasures
I'm with you on the sci-fi/fantasy. What I like is that you can remove the mundane of our reality and people are still people. They are just dealing with different external pressures, but internally and inter-relationally, they have the same wants and needs as anyone else.
I'm not much of a movie person. I perfer TV series. I guess I'm a nut for characters because I like TV's ability to really dig into a character, which you can't in a 90-minute movie, or at least not as much.
Also, Classical Music is the best writing music, IMO :)
Kelworthfiles: I had a hard time choosing a "guilty pleasure", too. If I like something, I'm usually fine with telling people I like it. :P

I am impressed with your passion for classical music, other than Bach and string quartets I find it quite difficult listening. I know you listen to it in a different way to other music, its the same with jazz, you have to develop an ear for what is being said.
