True Blood, Dallas, The Perry Files, Books, and Hops

With the internet on and off (mostly off) this week, I have fallen behind on a few reviews, in which I hope to catch up with in the next few days. I did break my dreaded insomnia a few days ago, but now I am catching a cold. Last weekend I saw Dark Shadows at my local theater, which I thought was better than what I was expecting. You can read my review here on it.

Anybody watch True Blood? I liked it, but I could have done without the vampire incest and the Tara turning into a vampire. Tara is the worst character on the series, completely different from the books, and I wish they would just kill her off.

I actually watched TNT's Dallas last night. I recall my grandparents watching the series, so I was not completely clueless about the show. I thought it was alright, and fits in with being a sequel than a reboot.

Has anyone seen John Carter? It was Disney's big-budge flop from earlier this year, actually just a few months ago, based on A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I don't care much for computerized special effects, aka CGI, but I thought the movie was fun. It was well directed and it had an old serial feel to it. Yes, the plot was a bit confusing, but I still liked it.

I am not big on today's cartoons, but I do occasionally catch an episode of the well-written Phineas and Ferb. I know the show is made for kids, but I think some of the humor is more for adults. Anyway, I bought the recent DVD release titled The Perry Files which contains seven (fourteen segments) episodes. I might watch it over the weekend. I also picked up, well ordered to exact, Thundercats: Season One: Book Two on DVD. I don't care much for remakes, but I do like this new version of the 80s classic.

There were a few books in the mail this week: Kiss the Dead by Laurell K. Hamilton; Five Miles South of Peculiar; and High Noon by Debra Webb. At Walmart, I bought Bite Me by Christopher Moore, and The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead.

Question of the week:
Do you belong to a book club, either online or in real life?

My Answer:
I'm a member of a few Doubleday book clubs and the Truly Your Book Club. As for a group type club the answer is 'no.'

Question of the week:

Happy Father's Day! Who is your favorite dad character in a book and why?

My Answer: Michael Bennett from the James Patterson's books is the only dad character can think of. He's a single father of 10 or 12 kids (I don't remember the exact number.) and a cop.

  1. It was hard to think of fathers in books. I guess parents are uncool lol. New follower!

  2. Sounds like a good choice, a father of a lot of kids.
