Hand Towels with Lace

On my last visit to a Ross store, I found two pretty and inexpensive hand towels. I liked them because of the purple embroidered flowers. The moment I saw these towels, I knew I wanted to buy them. And at the same moment I thought that they would look even better if embellished with crocheted lace of purple color. I remembered having a roll of purple crochet thread in my craft supplies. Thus, I bought the towels without hesitation.

Towels with lace

On the following day I set to work. I tried three different lace patterns but didn’t like any of them, so I kind of came up with my own. It didn’t take me long to crochet two strips of lace, and this new project was finished quickly.
I think the lace made a big difference! What do you think? Here is the “before” picture.

Dearest Olga,

You're such a TALENTED young lady! Amazing how creative your mind goes for thinking about such lovely embellishment. Couldn't be any prettier. Labor of love and it would cost way too much for having it done industrial like you did it...

Lots of love and admiration as always,

Mariette

I saw the thumbnail of these pretty things and couldn't wait until I got over here. I didn't imagine that you did them yourself. But what's wrong with me? This is so you. What a beautiful difference with the purple lace! just darling!

I blogged about pillowcases I crocheted a violet edging on but I used yarn instead of thread. Yours are soooo pretty!

So pretty. I am beyond impressed that you can make your own lace. I have got to learn how to do this since I have a weakness for lace.

p.s. how did you attach it to the towels? Or did you simple create the lace directly on the towels?

Olga, you are so talented! The lace is a lovely addition to your hand towels.

Thank you all for your kind comments ;-)
Robin asked how I attached the lace to the towels. Since I don't have a sewing machine, I just sewed it on with small accurate stitches.

These are so beautiful! And thank you for bringing back some sweet memories of my grandmother's sisters -- they used to buy plain washcloths and crochet around the edges. Brides would get stacks of these beautiful washcloths as gifts from my great aunts!
