Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for your neighbor there. Here we go-
1. What impresses you?2. Where are you in your family birth order? Do you fit the stereotype of that particular slot? In what way?
I'm the third of four children, the middle girl. Here we are with our mama in 1960 something. I'm on the left in the navy blue coat. We used to get new coats every spring.
Middle children are typically easy-going, independent, and creative, and I think in terms of those particular traits the stereotype holds true. Middle children are also often the peacemakers and I do try to bring peace where I can.
3. What motivates you more-a reward or a consequence? Elaborate.
I think it depends what we're talking about here. Am I going to get fired if I don't complete xyz? Is someone going to get hurt if xyz doesn't occur? If so then the consequence is motivating. Do I get a bonus? A raise? a chocolate cake? a clean house? if I complete xyz? In that case, the reward is more motivating.
4. May 14th is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Who thinks biscuits deserve their own day? Do you like biscuits? Make your own? Grab one for breakfast at a drive-through now and then? Which drive-through makes the one you like best? What do you like to put on a biscuit? What's your favorite food or dish that calls for buttermilk?
Everything has a day so why not biscuits? Yes, I like them, but it's rare I have one. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a biscuit from a drive-through. We don't do fast food, other than the occasional Chick-fil-a when traveling. If I were ordering a breakfast biscuit I'd get sausage on mine.
My favorite dish that calls for buttermilk would be a sour cream coffee cake I make every now and then.
5. Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? What's your favorite part of a wedding/wedding reception?
Just one on our summer calendar this year. Technically spring but we've all moved into summer now, haven't we? We're also going to a wedding this fall, so two in 2024. Most of our friends children are married and we're more into the season of welcoming babies.
I love the solemnity of the spoken vows, but my favorite part of a wedding/reception is probably the father-daughter dance.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
We've been in our house almost eight years now and every spring we attempt to find a plant that will thrive on our front porch. It gets the scorching afternoon sun and unless we water several times a day, every plant we've tried there eventually withers and dies. Purslane is pretty and works beside the garage doors, but that spot gets just enough of a break from the midday sun that it's fine.
This year we opted for (shhh...don't tell...aritificial). I am normally not a fan of artificial plants, but I came across an article in Southern Living on which look the most real and ordered two.
Ferns because we love them, and also because we have real ferns hanging on the back patio and it's hard to tell the difference. I got mine through Amazon from a shop called Nearly Natural.
We are really happy with them.
